You may have heard that the monarch butterfly faces steep population decline, but there is hope and we can help!

Speaker Terri Treacy of the Illinois Monarch Project will teach us about the monarch’s unique lifecycle, migration patterns, and increasing survival threats. In particular, she will discuss the problem of loss of habitat and The Illinois Monarch Project’s plan of action for individuals, organizations and local governments to protect the monarch by planting milkweed and other native plants.

Digital trainings are ideal for those already familiar with milkweed identification and for returning monitors wanting to brush up on their skills.

This project supports the declining monarch butterfly population by improving our knowledge of residential milkweed in the Chicago Region and the habitat it offers to caterpillars throughout their life stages. In 2019, the pilot year, 73 amazing volunteers monitored 130 patches and found 5109 eggs and 104 fifth-instar caterpillars.

This training will take place online via a Zoom webinar. A link will be sent to all registrants one day before the class.
